Counselling is a helping relationship based on the principle of empowerment. It elicits that we as human beings are distinctive in our growth and we all have the inner capacity to reach our maximum potential. We all possess unique qualities and our problems are set in context to our individual experiences.
It’s a process where the counsellor provides a safe, confidential and non judgemental environment for the client to identify their problems and find a way to address them in an empathic way. It doesn’t involve giving advice or direction. The therapist supports the client in finding the answers and uncovering reasons for difficult feelings, chaotic thoughts, and behaviour patterns.
I am a trained humanistic counsellor. Humanistic counselling covers approaches like person centred counselling, Gestalt therapy, Transactional Analysis, Maslow and humanism and the existential approach. I am also an eager follower of the theories of Carl Jung, Erik Erikson, Melanie Klein and David Winnicot.
Using the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard I provide a compassionate and non judgemental space to work with you. I give you the opportunity to express your feelings of anger, distress, frustration and hurt in a totally accepting environment.
Life can be a struggle sometimes and the chaos of the mind can be overwhelming. Our inner voices and torment can be debilitating at times and we need to be heard by someone who will offer us a kind, holding space and not judge us. Sometimes we don’t know what’s happening and it can be terrifying. Internalising our problems only makes it worse. I listen to your dilemmas and problems empathetically and help support you in finding the answers for a more fulfilling life.
I believe the goodness and strength lies within you. It’s about gaining the awareness and understanding of your struggles. I facilitate the process of insight and looking within yourself. I help you cope and provide you care and support to deal with your emotions and issues. I support you in your struggles and try to ease your difficult feelings and distress.
For me what’s vital is that you are important, nothing else matters. It’s about letting go of your past and coming to terms with your present. Accepting what you can’t change and making a choice to be kinder to yourself. Embracing yourself and breaking free from what holds you back. Walking the path of self compassion with your head held high.
